Literally stop using the app. Stop using it. You know how ao3 has no app because of apple store fuckery so we all just type www.archiveofourown.org into our mobile browsers. Brother. Type in www.tumblr.com in there. There is not a single advantage I can think of to the app, except the increbily niche one where its better at pulling time stamps on deleted posts for some reason. Only they borked that too recently.

Stop using the app.

a pair of scenes out of The Comic™ that had to get cut: Cassius doing his best impression of Cassandra with the foreshadowing re: Publius raising his hand over his face to block out the sun and later Publius taking an arrow to that exact hand at Carrhae

I ended up scrapping it because there was an underlying dialogue in the second scene where Octavius asks Cassius what he’s seeing, and the thing is, Cassius is too far away to actually see when Publius gets hit, and originally I wrote it in because of Cassius and his thematic eye sight out of Shakespeare, but this comic isn’t about that and keeping it in would have just too many underlying implied themes going on.

that said, I’m still kind of fond of it, so here we go!

#im not sure how i feel about posting things like this but i do have a fondness for this rejected bit so it gets to be immortalized #on the blog #generally tho i try to refrain from posting behind the scenes stuff or rejected edits. feels weird. don't like it #with this as the one exception lmao #anyway truly the final version of this scene is SO much better. just straight up a horror nightmare sequence #also this draft had too many medium close up shots. like a REALLY embarrassing amount for something #that's supposed to be a partial homage to old hollywood epics. like. absolutely cringe worthy and visually Ugh #the current/final draft is so much better with the negative space and visual balance thank god #i think i'd start eating my pencils if i had to revise carrhae one more time

hi! i'm a beginner artist and i absolutely love your art style, so could you maybe give some tips? I try to draw everyday, but i'm not seeing much of a difference. maybe it's something wrong with my process?

It’s..... it’s love...?

In all seriousness, I’m not really sure what to tell you..!! Different methods work for different folks, so no concrete solution exists, but I can tell you of my personal experiences at least?

It’s love. Drawing everyday is very good, I think, but I think loving what you’re drawing is also very good... For an example scenario, I love Aether, right? I love Aether so I want to draw him. I love Aether so I want to draw him well. I think Aether is pretty (because I love him) so his features are also pretty, like nice slender fingers or fluffy hair or nice legs... So I learned how to draw nice slender fingers and fluffy hair and nice legs, because Aether has them and I like that about him!

I think Aether should wear nice things (because I love him). I think pretty outfits are nice! So I draw Aether in pretty outfits. And thus, I learned how to draw different kinds of clothes, like frilly skirts and fancy shoes and shiny accessories. And I think that Aether should have people who love him, so I learned to draw Xiao. I think Aether should have a nice world to live in, so I make my weirdly detailed AU world settings...

In short, I got better(?) at drawing because I loved my creations, and I wanted better for them! I think it also helps to draw your creations like they’re alive! Like, he’s not just... standing there, he forgot what he came into the room for and now he’s zoning out, put some life into it! You learn... a lot about how to draw things when there’s a story to it, I think...

Like most things, drawing is an expression of the heart, isn’t it? Even if you don’t love your creation, you have spent time and thought on it. You thought about your strokes and your colors, how this part needs to be erased or that section should be edited, and it ends up a labor of love in the end anyways! A work that moment’s “you” created.

Besides, how do you judge “getting better”? For me, it’s when my creations grow up well. For you, it might be when you get closer to drawing how you want to draw. Take it at your own pace, have fun with it, draw with love! That’s about all I can say, sorry it wasn’t anything helpful...!!
